26-11 San Rafael missing at risk male 3/14/2026
On Saturday, March 14th, Marin SAR was requested by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office on behalf of the San Rafael Police Department to assist with the search for a missing at-risk elderly male. Marin SAR responded with over 50 personnel, and less than an hour into the search, a team located the missing male who had been out for several hours. Medical care was started, and handed over to the San Rafael Fire Department, who transported the missing person to a local hospital.
26-10 Carson Falls Trail Rescue 3/5/2026
Marin SAR was requested by the Ross Valley Fire Department to assist with an injured subject on the Carson Falls Trail. SAR members responded along with Marin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Marin Municipal Water District Rangers, and Ross Valley Fire to assist with patient care and extrication to an ambulance.
26-09 Old Stove Trail Rescue 2/28/2026
Marin SAR was requested by the Marin County Fire Department to assist with an injured subject on the High Marsh Trail. SAR members, along with Southern Marin Fire, Marin Municipal Water District Rangers, and Marin County Fire personnel, assisted with the carryout to an awaiting ambulance.
26-08 Lucas Valley Missing At Risk 2/23/2026
During a team meeting, Marin Search and Rescue was alerted to an overdue, at-risk male. The subject, a 46-year-old developmentally disabled male, was last seen leaving his residence. As the search began, the subject returned home. The search was subsequently canceled.
26-07 Novato Evidence Search 2/23/2026
Marin Search and Rescue was requested by the Novato Police Department to assist in an evidence search. Marin Search and Rescue responded, and despite intensive searching, including in knee-deep water, no clues were located, and teams were released
26-06 Mendocino County Eel River - Missing Motorists 2/18/2026
Marin SAR Type 1 personnel were requested to search for two occupants of a vehicle that crashed into the Eel River. 15 members responded and deployed in three areas. Two teams followed the west bank of the river - one going north and one south. A third team did a 2-mile out-and-back assignment further downstream on the east side, and a fourth marine team was asked to gain access closer to the river on the east side to search some specific, difficult-to-access spots. A swiftwater team from Humboldt County was tasked to obtain a more precise location for the vehicle. The subjects were not located, but multiple teams retrieved clues - mostly on the western bank of the river about a mile downstream from the crash location. In the days that followed, both subjects were recovered by the Mendocino County SO with assistance from several agencies.

Marin County Fire requested Marin Search and Rescue to assist with a carryout on the Cataract Trail. Multiple members responded to the scene and assisted resources responding to the trail rescue.
26-04 Mill Valley Despondent OP12 2/28/2026
Search efforts for OP12 on Saturday, February 28th, included a large number of ground searchers in high-probability areas. Marin SAR members, along with the Mill Valley Police Department, reevaluated all clues, tracks, and data collected during the search to identify these high-probability areas. No clues were located.

Search efforts for OP11 included the use of 8 Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9s in high-probability areas. Mutual aid was provided by the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA). No clues were located.

In collaboration with the Mill Valley Police Department, it was decided that Marin Search and Rescue would continue search efforts in lower-probability areas and re-search previous assignments with limited GPS track coverage. Marin Search and Rescue also began developing a 5-day incident action plan to expand search efforts over the coming days. Despite intensive search efforts, no clues were located.
26-04 Mill Valley Despondent OP3 1/27/2026
OP3 of the search for the missing Mill Valley 73-year-old continued on Tuesday, January 27th. 55 searchers from mutual aid teams joined 36 Marin searchers in continued search efforts, searching high-probability areas, filling gaps in GPS coverage, and expanding into new areas. Despite search efforts, no clues or sightings were reported. The decision was made to continue efforts on a limited continuous basis, utilizing local resources. Assisting SAR teams and agencies included Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, Sonoma, BAMRU, San Mateo, CARDA, Marin Openspace Rangers, CHP, and the Fire Foundry crew.
26-04 Mill Valley Despondent OP2 1/26/2026
80 searchers from both Marin and Mutual aid teams responded to OP2 of the search for the missing, despondent 72-year-old female. Searchers re-searched many previously searched areas, focusing on the surrounding neighborhood, golf course, and trails. UAS were flown over a wide area and surrounding trails, a nearby marsh, and the bike path from Mill Valley to Sausalito. CHP Airplane also assisted in search operations. Investigations checked local hospitals, hotels, public transportation, camera footage, and tips from residents. Mill Valley Police conducted an investigation that included credit card and bank records, contacting surveillance and ring cameras and interviewing family and friends. An Alert Marin and Silver Alerts were also issued. Twenty-nine search teams completed forty search assignments. Despite efforts, no clues were found.
26-04 Mill Valley Despondent 1/25/2026
On Sunday, January 25th, a despondent 72-year-old female walked away from her home in Mill Valley and was reported missing by her family. Marin SAR arrived and began an extensive search, clearing the surrounding neighborhood, golf course, and nearby trails. Search teams included area and trailing K-9s, e-bike teams, and ground searchers. Marin SAR also received assistance from Sonoma H-1 and the sheriff’s UAV team, which used FLIR. Over seventy members responded. Unfortunately, no clues were located. Marin SAR requested additional resources for the following day.
26-03 Marin Valley, Novato Dementia 2/12/2026
The Novato Police Department requested Marin SAR to assist in the search for a missing elderly dementia patient who walked away. Marin SAR arrived on scene and began conducting search operations. Air-31 advised Marin that someone was lying down behind a residence, tucked under a tree. Nearby SAR teams and Novato Police responded, and officers en route were flagged down by a resident who had discovered the missing subject in their backyard. Novato Fire responded and evaluated the subject before transporting the subject to the hospital for further evaluation.
26-02 Shoreline Technical Rescue 1/10/2026
Marin SAR was requested by the Southern Marin Fire Department to respond to a cliff rescue off Shoreline Highway. Marin SAR responded directly from a training in progress. Once on scene, Marin SAR prepared for a possible hoist. Marin SAR, with firefighters, assisted in locating a viable trail for the subject to hike back up to Highway 1.
26-01 Double Point Rescue 1/4/2026
Marin SAR was requested by County Fire to assist with a technical rescue for two stranded subjects on a cliff at Double Point. Marin SAR mobilized quickly with 39 members responding to the callout. At 19:22, CHP H30 responded to the rescue and extracted all subjects from the field; Marin SAR’s response was canceled. The subjects were reportedly in good condition, with no injuries.
25-48 Santa Cruz-Felton Dementia search OP9 1/18/2026
Marin SAR responded to OP9 of continued search efforts for a missing 73-year-old female with dementia, last seen on November 18th, 2025. We joined Santa Cruz, along with several other Northern California SAR teams. Marin provided 30 searchers and one K9 team. Searchers searched challenging terrain, including deep redwood canyons and dense vegetation. During search operations, a Marin team located confirmed clues, all of which led downslope. As the team followed the clues, they eventually located the subject, deceased. The scene was secured, and Santa Cruz deputies and the coroner responded.
