Palo Marin Missing Person 12/31/2019

NPS called out Marin SAR to help locate a 22 YOF near Alamere Falls. Henry 1 spotted the subject before members arrived on scene.

Novato Missing Person 12/23/2019

Marin SAR was requested at 0458 for an at risk 79 YOF in Novato. 22 members and 2 canines responded. Members covered the surrounding neighborhoods and our first ever E-bike team was deployed. The subject was located alive and well.

Mt. Baldy Mutual Aid 12/12/2019

San Bernardino SAR requested mutual aid for a missing 52 YOM on Mt. San Antonio. 6 Marin SAR members responded, helping as ground teams for 2 OPs. Teams searched in high elevation assignments utilizing crampons and ice axes. No clues were located.

Santa Clara Mutual Aid - Missing 34 YOM 11/30/2019

Santa Clara SAR requested mutual aid for a missing 34 YOM in the Joseph Grant Regional Park. 21 Marin SAR members responded, with 3 members assisting in the command post, and the balance as ground teams. Marin members completed several area assignments in adverse weather and steep terrain. As the operational period was wrapping up, the subject was located by a passing vehicle. Marin SAR members medically assessed and treated the patient until an ambulance arrived.

Santa Clara Mutual Aid - Missing 34 YOM 11/30/2019

Santa Clara SAR requested mutual aid for a missing 34 YOM in the Joseph Grant Regional Park on Mt. Hamilton. 21 Marin SAR members responded, with 3 members assisting in the command post, and the balance as ground teams. Marin members completed several area assignments in adverse weather and steep terrain. As the operational period was wrapping up, the subject was located by a SAR team passing in a vehicle. Marin SAR members medically assessed and treated the patient until an ambulance arrived.

Mist Trail Carryout 11/23/2019

Several Marin SAR members were in Yosemite for a half dome trip. Upon arrival, Yosemite Search and Rescue (YOSAR) requested Marin SAR assistance for a carryout. Four members broke off from the half dome trip and assisted, then hiked back up to meet the rest of the team and completed their ascent of half dome.

Napa - Lake Berryessa Missing 48 YOM 11/13/2019

Napa County requested mutual aid to search for a missing 48 YOm last seen in his fishing boat on Lake Berryessa. 17 Marin SAR members responded to assist with this search.

Kincade Fire Shelter Construction 10/27/2019

33 Marin SAR members responded to the civic center to assist in the construction of a shelter for evacuees from the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County. Members assisted until approximately 7 pm, with a headcount of around 700 people being housed in the shelter.

Terra Linda Missing Person 10/24/2019

San Rafael Police Department requested a Marin SAR response for a missing elderly subject with dementia from Kaiser Terra Linda. 19 members were responding to the scene as the subject was located.

China Camp Evidence Search 10/19/2019

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office requested a SAR response to search for evidence in relation to a deceased person located in china camp. 23 members and one canine responded.

Fresno County Mutual Aid 10/18/2019

Marin SAR was requested by Fresno county to assist in an ongoing search for a missing person near camp four and a half. 10 Marin members responded and spent two days searching. Marin teams completed several area assignments, and several assignments only accessible by technical rope systems.

Marin SAR was requested as mutual aid for a missing 72 YOM hunter missing in the medicine lakes area. The subject was located and the Marin SAR response was cancelled.

Lake View Fire Road Medical 10/13/2019

Marin SAR members assisting with bootcamp training new members responded to a report of a mountain biker down near lake lagunitas. 3 SAR members responded and assessed the patient and provided care until a Marin County Fire ambulance arrived onscene. The patient was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Missing Person in Novato - Cancelled 9/14/2019

Marin SAR was requested for an at risk missing 63 YOF in Novato. As the team was mobilizing, the missing person was found alive and well, and SAR was cancelled.

Stinson Beach Rescue 9/6/2019

Marin SAR was requested by State Parks for a missing person in the area of Willow Camp Fire Road and McKennan Trail. 22 members responded along with the Marin County Sheriff’s office UAV team, NPS, and Stinson Beach Fire. As Marin teams were headed into the field, the missing person was located alive, but unable to walk by a hasty team of Stinson Beach Firefighters. SAR members regrouped and geared up for a rescue, but as they were headed out, the fog cleared and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Helicopter Henry 1 was able to shorthual the patient to a waiting ambulance.

Ventana Wilderness Missing 33 YOM 9/1/2019

Monterey County SAR requested mutual aid for a missing 33 year old male in the Ventana Wilderness. As Marin SAR was gearing up to respond, the missing person was located by a Monterey team alive and well.

Missing 84 YOM Belmont OP 1 & 2 8/27/2019

Marin SAR was requested along with several other bay area counties for a missing 84 year old male with dementia in San Mateo County. 17 members responded during the first operational period and searched several areas of high probability, with no clues being found. Another 13 members responded the next day and covered several assignments. No clues were located.

Mendocino Baker Search 8/25/2019

Marin SAR was requested for a missing 81 YOM with alzheimer’s. 27 members and 4 K9’s responded to assist. The missing person’s vehicle had been located on a logging road, but after a hasty search, Mendocino SAR had been unable to locate the missing person. Marin SAR was released after no further clues were found. About a week later, Marin SAR sent 7 members to search a drainage in the search area that was a high probability assignment. A Napa County SAR team located the remains of the missing person halfway into the operational period.

Trinity Alps - Second Search 8/18/2019

SAR members on the original Trinity Alps Search were redeployed to another area for reports on an individual yelling for help. Teams consisted of members from Trinity, Marin, and San Mateo Counties. Teams were unable to locate any individual in distress and all resources were released.

Trinity Alps Mutual Aid 8/16/2019

Marin SAR was requested for a missing backpacker seen five days earlier in the Trinity National Forest. 21 members responded along with our remote command post equipment. Teams were deployed via National Guard Blackhawk Helicopter and spent the night in the field. On the second day of searching a CHP helicopter located a backpack matching the missing person’s. A Marin team was diverted to the location and located the missing subject deceased.

Missing 81 YOM Loch Lomond 8/1/2019

The Marin County Sheriff’s office requested a Marin SAR response around 11:15 pm on August 1st for an 81 YOm reported missing by his wife. 35 members responded including a K9 and ground searchers. Boats were requested as well as a UAV and CHP helicopter. Teams searched most of the night and the next day, when the search was suspended pending further clues. The missing persons remains were located three days later on Treasure Island.

Monterey Mutual Aid - Cancelled 7/27/2019

Marin SAR was requested for a missing 76 YOM who was last seen at 5PM on the Salmon Falls Trail in the Southern Big Sur Coast in Monterey County. The missing subject was with his wife and two adults kids, hiking to a waterfall about 300 yards off HWY 1. He and his wife were not able to make it over some boulders on the trail near the waterfall and waited. The MP then left his wife to walk back to the car and rest. The rest of the family returned to the car about 40 minutes later and could not locate him. Monterey SAR searched overnight and the next morning morning with no results and requested mutual aid for Sunday. While Marin SAR was mobilizing, Monterey Sheriff’s deputies located the subject deceased off trail in the search area. All mutual aid was canceled.

Missing Hopland 25 YOM 7/24/2019

Mendocino County SAR requested mutual aid for a missing 25 YOM. The missing persons vehicle had been located after he had not shown up for work. 20 Marin SAR members responded and covered several segments with no clues being found. The search was suspended due to no further clues.

White Mountains - Cancelled 7/15/2019

Inyo County SAR requested mutual aid for a missing 60 YOF in the White Mountains. 24 members were preparing to respond when the missing person was located alive and the team was cancelled.

Missing 9 Year Old Autistic Male 7/6/2019

Marin SAR was notified of a missing 9 YOM with autism in Novato. The missing child was located before the team was paged out.

Marin County Fair Medical Support 7/3/2019

Marin County SAR provided medical care at the Marin County Fair this year. Members responded to a variety of calls ranging from lacerations and bee stings to chest pain and altered level of consciousness. Several patients were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Los Angeles County Mutual Aid 6/24/2019

Marin SAR was requested to support the search for a missing 72 YOM hiker that became separated from his hiking group in the San Gabriel wilderness Saturday afternoon. The search area was between 5000-8000ft in elevation in the rugged and remote San Gabriel mountains that look over Los Angeles. A team of ten Marin Sheriff’s SAR members supported the search for two days. The terrain was challenging and assignments were arduous, with one of our teams gaining 3500 ft over 11 miles. Another assignment took one of our teams out a remote, narrow ridge where they were hoisted out at the end in a planned extraction. The missing person was located alive by search teams a few days later.

Mt. Whitney Mutual Aid - Cancelled 6/18/2019

Marin SAR was requested by the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office for a missing 41 year old male who was overdue on his summit attempt of mt. Whitney. As 5 members were preparing to respond, they were stood down as the subject had been located deceased.

Dipsea Race Support 6/9/2019

23 Marin SAR members along with numerous other agencies assisted in the annual dipsea race. SAR was assigned to the cardiac hill area and broke up into three different teams. Members assisted with a few minor injuries, and fortunately there were no major incidents at this years race.

Crissy Field Missing 9 YOM 6/4/2019

Around 4 pm on June 4th, SFPD and the US Park Police requested Marin SAR for a missing 9 year old male who was last seen bicycling in the area of Ft. Point. As the first members were arriving on scene the missing person was located by a security guard approximately 4 miles away. 34 members responded to this incident.

Missing Woman Muir Beach 5/25/2019

At 2350 hours State Parks requested Marin SAR for a missing 44 YOF whose vehicle had been located in Muir Beach after she did not return to her east bay home. After searching through the night and the following day the search was suspended due to clues leading to believe the missing person was outside of the search area. Further investigation the following day revealed the missing person had managed to make her way back home.

Maui Missing 31 YOF 5/21/2019

Planning assistance for the civilian search effort Amanda Eller, a 35 year old female that become lost in a forest trail system. Marin SAR conducted a conference with the civilian search manager, Chris Berquist, after he reached out to our teams facebook account requesting ideas. The conference call included management training and planning support for the Amanda Eller search. Three days later she was located alive in the priority air search assignment by a helicopter searching the main linear feature based on our training and plan.

Monterey Mutual Aid - Cancelled 5/16/2019

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office requested mutual aid for a missing hiker in the Ventana wilderness. 16 Marin SAR members responded, and were cancelled en-route when the hiker was located.

Missing 81YOF San Rafael 5/11/2019

San Rafael Police Department requested Marin SAR for a search for a missing 81 year old female with dementia. 51 Marin members and 3 canines responded. Members deployed in several field teams, covering a large portion of San Rafael as well as distributing flyers, checking transit routes, and other possible locations. The missing subject was located alive and well in San Francisco.

Samuel P Taylor Rescue 5/3/2019

State Park Rangers at Samuel P Taylor State Park received a report for a missing 67 year old male from the campground. After a quick hasty search, they requested Marin SAR to respond and assist with the search effort. 41 members responded to the scene and quickly set up search assignments and fielded teams. About two hours later, a CHP airplane with infrared cameras located what they believed to be the missing person. They guided ground searchers in to the subject. Upon locating the subject, Marin SAR members assessed the patient and packaged him for transport. Due to the terrain, a technical rope system was used in order to extricate the patient. The patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance, alive and well.

Butte County Mutual Aid 4/18/2019

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office requested mutual aid for a missing father and two kids. 19 members responded to assist on this search. Members deployed in several teams as well as overhead positions. Around 1 am, teams were notified that the subjects had been located by a passing motorist.

Novato Missing 87 YOF 4/8/2019

Marin SAR was requested To assist the Sheriff’s Office with the search for a missing 87 year old female in Novato. Deputies had been searching the neighborhood around the subject’s home and decided that SAR was needed to begin a larger search. The missing subject has Alzheimer’s and walked away from her home. The missing subject was located alive and well by a SAR member who was driving into the search area.

Ridgecrest Vehicle Accident 4/4/2019

Marin SAR was requested to perform a limited objective search for a vehicle that had gone over the side of Ridgecrest Blvd. on Mt. Tamalpais. 28 members responded and assisted in locating several items related to the accident.

San Rafael Missing Dementia Patient 3/30/2019

Marin SAR was requested by San Rafael PD for a missing woman with dementia. Officers had driven the area and a nixle alert was sent out before Marin SAR was requested. 36 members responded and began searching, covering a large portion of San Rafael, with teams on foot going door to door, roving vehicles, canine teams, and assistance from SRPD officers. Later that evening the missing person was successfully located by a Marin SAR member.

Muir Woods Trail Rescue 3/24/2019

While 16 members were returning from a backpacking trip in Pt. Reyes, Marin County Fire requested SAR for a trail rescue in Muir Woods. Members assisted and successfully completed the carryout.

Missing Mill Valley Child 3/21/2019

Mill Valley Police Department requested Marin SAR for a missing nine year old near the Mill Valley Rec Center. 47 members responded and as teams were being deployed, the child was located alive and well.

Garberville Missing Children 3/2/2019

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office requested Mutual Aid for two missing children in the Garberville area. 39 Marin SAR members responded and assisted in the search, many coming from our Mountain Rescue Reaccreditation Test. Members were deployed as field teams, overhead roles, and UTV teams. On the second day of searching, the two children were located alive and well!

Stinson Beach Missing Person 2/21/2019

Marin SAR was paged out for a missing person in the area of Stinson Beach. SAR members searched over two operational periods with over 40 members present, along with two canines. We also had assistance from water rescue craft from Southern Marin Fire, Stinson Beach Fire, and Marin County Fire. The missing person was later located deceased.

El Dorado Missing Skiers 2/18/2019

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s office requested mutual aid for two missing skiers in the backcountry. 8 Marin SAR members responded and while they were being briefed, the two skiers were located by a CHP helicopter. Marin members hastily set up a rewarming station and took over patient care when the missing skiers returned to the command post. They monitored and cared for them until paramedics arrived nearly an hour later.

Southern Marin Fire requested human remains detection (HRD) canine teams for a mudslide that occured due to weather. Three members and two canines responded along with the Sheriff’s UAV team.

Covelo Abduction OP 11 1/25/2019

Marin SAR was requested by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, to assist in follow up on a search from 2018. Twelve members along with three canines assisted in this search.

Mt. Tam Stranded Hiker Assist 1/19/2019

Five members diverted from a Saturday night navigation training to assist Sheriff’s Deputies and State Park Rangers to contact a hiker who found herself off trail on a steep portion of the Matt Davis Trail. She had called 911 and reported she was unable to move. Team member assisted in locating the patient, assisting her cross country and back to her vehicle.
